Five Days to Christmas a Reflective Journey

Five days to Christmas. I look at the calendar and think, where has all the time gone? Time does not wait for me, nor anyone else. The calendar's day flips over and we are one more day closer.

If I didn't have the calendar to remind me, I would continue in my every day routine. I wouldn't change much because I would be living the same old way. Yet in a very intimate way, the calendar says to keep moving.

Here it is 5 days until Christmas. Do you have all your shopping done? Are you planning those last minute entertainment ideas? It seems that the holiday shopping and parties take up so much of all thoughts we barely find the time to reflect.

Reflection usually comes at the end of the year.

We think about the past year of our life and wonder what we accomplished. Did we complete what we set out to do? Was it a tough year? Did we suffer any losses in our life? Or was it an exceptional year? Did we find a new job? Did we celebrate the birth of a child?

The end of the year reminds us that time is short. We anticipate the new year with new beginnings and hopes for a brighter tomorrow. What are you most thankful for this year? What are your hopes for the next?

As you are wrapping those last minute gifts to put under the tree, count your blessings. Perhaps you are in the middle of a rough patch right now. Or maybe you are suffering and worried about your future. Whatever you are facing this Christmas, remember God has the perfect gift for you. The gift of a new life, wrapped in a baby, born in a manger over two thousand years ago.

This Christmas celebrate the joy of the living Son of God who came to this earth so you and I could be free.  Jesus gave us a passageway. He brought us a bridge to God. Through His birth He came to live with man. Through His death He gave us new life.

Celebrate Christmas. Reflect on the journey. The days keep moving and you are heading in the right direction.
