Defining Ourselves in the Deep Layers of Soul Work

If we are honest, most of us will admit there are deep layers to our innermost being that we do not reveal to others. In essence, we may not be aware of these layers within our conscious self.

We have an outside self that we show to others. Our exterior faces, our words and acts that we want others to see about us. There is an inner layer as well that we share only with those closest to us. We reveal our innermost thoughts, share our dreams, and express our feelings to those around us. For the ones who "know us well" we let our guards down a bit.

Yet beneath all that there are still deeper layers of our self. Areas that we choose to keep hidden. Secrets that we dare not reveal and thoughts we would not want broadcast.

Go a little deeper and we'll find out there are hidden layers our conscious self is unaware. Our subconscious reveals these things to us in our dreams, and in the way we react to certain situations. Those deeper levels are unique to us. They are the areas that evolve based on our environment and our life's experiences. Some areas are too painful to relive and we hide them beneath those layers. Sometimes the unconscious protects us for mere survival.

As therapists work with an individual, those inner layers rise to the surface. Yet one does not need to fear those revelations.

For God knows everything about you. He knows your inner-workings, your most private thoughts and He loves you above everything else. God cares about your soul. He sees the deepest part of you and wants the best for you.

The Bible says in Jeremiah 29:11-13, "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."

When we are in doubt, when we fear, and when we don't understand why things happen the way they do, we can trust in God's promise.

If we do the soul work, He will do the rest.
